There were 17 members out this week the best this season. I say 17 as Paddy Murray signed on the dotted line after the game. Welcome Paddy, I know the members have enjoyed your company while you were checking us out, good job you didn't play with Gareth though, you might have changed your mined.
There were a number of competitions being played not least the culmination of the Greenwood, which was very close with three members vying for the top position. Also the Doubles Final and the Kevin Tomalin Trophy up for grabs.
We went out in three, three balls, sandwiched between two four balls. Patrick lead the way with his group, Rob, Tony and Dave C plying the doubles final, but after a while they had to concede to the road runners Dave W, Dennis and Bob, then things settled down to a pleasant round of golf, with the buggy's bringing up the rear, where you could hear lots of laughter and merriment going on, Gareth was in this group so you could see why.
In my group today was Wild West Willis, and newly joined together Martin Crooke, just back from honeymoon, looking a bit pale I thought. We started well, then I had a few bad shot as did my partners, but we got to grips with it and started scoring a few points until a couple of holes into the back nine where it started to unravel for us, Ian and myself managed to salvage a few points here and there, but the last few holes Martin really collapsed and didn't score on four of the last five, sorry Martin didn't mean to rub it in. Just goes to show, your sailing along and something happens and you go overboard. If he had scored on those holes he would have up there in the top placings. That's Golf!!!!!!
As mentioned earlier only two people were under 30pts and that score would normally put you in the middle of the greenwood points, but sadly for Dennis and Tony they came in the last two. Sorry, but I had to mention it (he says gleefully). Tony obviously had the doubles on his mind, I don't know about Dennis, I should have a word with Bob about your handicap if I were you, Dennis. And as for Bob he will have a great weekend with the axe with four people including himself to cut. It shouldn't come into effect until November, I think Bob.
The final winners on the day were in the Greenwood first with 39pts was Bob, well done Bob. Second one point behind was Phil Daynes with 38pts, well done Phil nice to see you back. And a further point back was John Simson on count back from Alan W.
The next 11 positions were all over 30pts, great stuff, like it.
The first of the competitions, The Doubles, was a very tight concern after being three down, Patrick and Rob were one up at the Seventeenth and all to play for on the last and it came down to putting with Tony having a three footer to par and extend the match. From around 18 feet Rob put away his putt to halve the hole and win the Doubles with Patrick, well done both, and very hard luck to Tony and Dave C, congratulations all for making it a great game. The final competition of the day was The Kevin Tomalin, played for by the first round loser's in the singles. This was won by John Simson with 37pts beating Chris Ward 35pts, well done John his first trophy in the golf society.
And finally, after all the calculations The Captain announced that Bob had won the Greenwood Trophy (no wonder he was beaming) with Tony second and Dave C third. Congratulations Bob, Tony and Dave C, a hard fought season and to all of you members for making at another good season of golf.
Sorry I forgot the nearest the pins, on the 4th was Peter Simson and 16th was Dave Williams there was no twos which was very surprising, the monies will be carried over to the Christmas Competition.
With this the Captain thanked every one for their support and support to his charity this season and wished Chris Ward the very best for his Captaincy next year.

With only the Driver left to play I would like to thank all you members for supporting our society whether you played one or all the matches this season and hopefully you will continue your support for the Presentation Night and into next year.
With Phillip now retired as Fixtures Secretary I would like to thank him for all his hard work that he has put into the society over the past six or seven years, any position is never easy (Daynes69) but Phil stayed at it and is now handing the unenviable task over to Tony Brock, who volunteered to take the job on for the next season. Once again Phil, on behalf of the members, many thanks.
Our first fixture to end or start next year will be our Christmas Competition, where Chris Ward will take up the start of his Captaincy, and as soon as Tony has sorted things out he will let us know, what where and when this fixture will take place.
