There were sixteen members out this week trying to improve on last years efforts most did. I played with John Simson, Alan Povey and Bob Cubitt in the last group. As last year the course, was in good condition with the drop of rain it had this week made things come to life, Alan P did say keep out of the rough (local knowledge) most did, but didn't and ventured in never to be found again. We had an average start, John, winner at our last meeting and Bob, Mr consistent this season started to lose it as we progressed while Alan slowly and quietly built up a good score, I just plodded round as usual, (no buggy this week)
The good golf was really spread around this week and with two single semi final going on, it was tough going, they both ended all square and had to play extra holes to get a result. Alan Williams and Patrick Stone were first to go and Patrick thought he had won it when he got a birdie on the first but never say die Alan popped in a long put off the green to match him. On to the second Alan couldn't match Patrick's fire power and lost by a stroke. The second semi went the same way Phil Daynes and Dave Williams toing and froing all the way and matching each other until the second extra hole when Dave went off line while Phil was in prime position. Dave, having to lay up to the green while Phil turned the screw and put his second within 10ft of the pin, with the putt to follow won the hole and the match.
While all this was going on the rest of us were making our way round picking up and dropping points where we could. Winner on the day was local devil Alan Povey who knew all the shortcuts, with 39pts on count back from Alan Williams who had the pressure of his singles match to contend with. Third was Paddy Murray our resident guest with 36pnts. Dennis and Chris came 4 & 5 with 36pts. The top 10 members today scored 30pts or more well done.
Nearest the pin on the sixth was Dennis and Paddy on the sixteenth there were no two's today so £8 is carried over to Captains Day. Another great day's golf and socializing thanks to you all, you make the day.
