As usual all our team arrived on time, while only Terry Jackson (Capt) from the Chippy side was there, no change there then.
We teed off at 11-25, led away by Patrick and Martin, in the brightening skies followed by Gareth and Tony, Peter and John, Chris and Phil, Dave and Bob and Dennis and myself last out.
The first highlight of the day was a hole in one by Zana from Chippy, well done to him. I know that there were many more highlights in each group, like Terry, who played on his own against Peter and John, losing on the last hole. I cannot comment on the other matches as there was either no news or unprintable news from them. Dennis and I managed to go 2up then by the turn be 3 down to a couple of young whipper snappers (they were to us) who played some great golf once they found there feet. On the 10th with the dark clouds moving in, we pulled one back only to loose it on the next to a great two by the boy's. We (Dennis mostly) pulled it back slowly but as the rain, which started on the13th, got worse Jamie and Burt made some great shots to pull away again to win 2 & 1.
Wondering whether we had let the team down we swam in to the club house to find that we had won as the first three pairings had done the job followed by a win by Dave and Bob giving us a 4&2 win retaining the Byfield Driver. After the presentations, thanks to Terry for donating the golf balls for the nearest pin where Chippy won 3 of the five nearest the pins (the other two not claimed) but we got the Shield to hang back on the wall After some of us, went back to The Griffin for a drink, thanks Zana, and a bite to eat, and a good old chinwag as we do with all our old friends from Chipping Warden, sadly John Buckingham was not there as he was taken ill that morning.
Once again well done Byfield.
