I got there early so to meet every one when they arrived (Sandra threw me out) Dennis arrived first, closely followed by Alan Povey and the Treasurer (must be a new year’s resolution), then slowly they trickled in until we were all assembled in good time for the new captain, Patrick Stone, to start the proceedings off with a welcome and a general chat, then onto the draw.
For me, and I know many others, it was great to be back out on the fairways again playing golf with our society friends, having fun and friendship and interacting with them.
Sadly we were down to fifteen members today John Simson pulled out through illness so we had one three ball and three four balls. Playing with me today was Capt. Povey, Tony Brock and co-pilot Dennis England and a buggy with no hand/foot break. This means you had to park sideways when you stopped on a slope or stick a number 13 shoe under the wheel.
Alan started badly and made a few more duff shots before arriving on the green for five putting out getting one point no more than the rest of us. The next went well and Tony hit a stunning second shot scattering the group in front, slow play, and a big apology when we arrived at the green. At this point the sun started to break through the clouds and getting a little warmer, just what was needed. From then on we all played reasonably well. By the turn the sun was out in all it’s glory only a few clouds in sight. And the golf changed Tony and I had some real mares on the back nine while Dennis and Alan plodded on. At the end of the round I have to say thank you to my playing partners for a very pleasant round of golf enjoying there company and banter made it all worth while, but it was marred slightly by slow play, duly fined we hope, Captain.
Winner on the day was Chris Ward with 38pts the only one to get over 36pts second on count back was Dennis England from Alan Povey and Phil Daynes on 34pts. Well done to all.
Nearest the pin on the 7th was Bob Cubitt and Dave Williams on the 16th, there were no two’s today.

Etiquette
Right Gentlemen back to slow play and other matters.
On Saturday, our first outing of the season, we had a problem with slow play from group 2 who managed to loose three holes before the end of the game. I know there some of us, me included, do not go as fast as others, for many reasons, and others look like they're jogging round.
Although not deliberate, Members must be aware of what is going on around them, as slow play makes it unfair to the golfers following you on the course. If you cannot keep up call the next group through, as per the rules.
Back to the rules, although a bit complicated you will find everything in it, so go out and buy one or down load it from the web. Some of the items there are on course care, just to remind you, repair your divots on the fairways and pitch marks on the greens (not like some golfers at Brampton on Saturday) And rake the bunkers when finished in them.
Also, management on the fairways and around the green. Don/t walk miles, look at your shot then return to your bag/cart/buggy, for a club, take a couple with you, especially around the green. Leave your buggy/bag/cart at the exit of the green to the next tee,
not scattered around the green or putt out and walk back to your bag etc. and around the green again.
So gentlemen, I hope we all try to keep within the rules, whichever one we are looking at, remember keep an eye on the group ahead and behind you.
