A message from your Captain
Firstly, I want to pass my thanks on to Peter Maher who brilliantly led us as captain (among other roles) during the last 12 months. If I can do half the job Peter did, I am confident we are in for a good year
I am proud to be taking on the role of Captain for the 2024 season in what is our 45th season. Byfield was my introduction to golf and I have fond memories of rounds with the likes of Bob Cubbitt, Dave Williams, Dennis England, Alan Williams, and many others who we no longer see. The society taught me the basics of the etiquette of golf, and gave me a safe environment to play without judgement.
This leads me on to my focus for my captaincy year which will be growing the society numbers. In an age where there is a lot of competition for our attention, returning to the society last year was something I'm incredibly glad I did. It would be great to see members who have drifted return, those who are infrequent be more frequent, and for all frequent members to introduce friends, family, colleagues, to our society to ensure it continues for another 45 years.
I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year!
My choice for the Captain's Charity for 2023 is Solden Hill House, a local charity based in Byfield.
Solden’s aim is to provide a comfortable and secure environment for all our residents and to encourage them to develop their full potential by supporting them in achieving their goals, whilst celebrating their individuality. With accommodation spanning 5 properties, Solden Hill House provides an environment with diverse accommodation set within 8 ½ acres of beautiful grounds in a truly enviable location. This, combined with our unique support team, allows us to offer a plethora of life skills and activities which are tailored to each individual resident. Our varied programme includes Makaton & Communication Skills, Craft Workshops, Cookery & Kitchen Skills, Theatre & Drama, Furniture Restoration, Gardening & Horticulture, Music Therapy, Swimming & Gymnasium, On-Site 'Bluebell' Café, Activity & Cinema Screen, Work Based Skills, Sensory Areas, Animal Interactions, Seaside, Country & Entertainment Breaks.
I look forward to seeing you all on the fairways in the 2023 season!
Craig
